Workforce Empowerment

International Humanitarian Services (IHS) is a Lansing-based 22 year old nonprofit organization that is committed to uplifting the underserved and under-resourced populations of Lansing. IHS serves as an empowerment organization by providing vulnerable populations, such as refugees, immigrants and those living in poverty, the chance at prosperity through training programs focused on career development, entrepreneurship and cultural immersion.

IHS is a catalyst for change in workforce development and provides a well-rounded approach to empowering those in poverty.Through this program the underserved are equipped with the skills and resources necessary to access various opportunities and build wealth. This project shifts the trajectory of the lives of refugees, immigrants, and the underprivileged by garnering community development and professional job development support.

IHS is committed to helping people transition from poverty to a prosperous life through workshops with industry professionals, to increase job readiness in addition to providing financial literacy, resume training, mentorship and mental health services support. Emotional support is utilized to help participants shift from a poverty mindset .

We are committed to helping others live a balanced life of productivity, through exposure to the building blocks of financial and emotional wellbeing.

  • Impulse control and the ability to delay gratification in service of future rewards

  • Perseverance in the face of obstacles

  • Belief in their ability to manage money and achieve financial goals (financial selfefficacy)

  • A tendency to make financial decisions in light of their own standards rather than in comparison to other people (internal frame of reference)
